Necole Bitchie reports that Disney star Zendaya Coleman has been cast at Aaliyah in an upcoming VH1 biopic.
Rumors off an Aaliyah film have floated around for years, but according to Necole's sources, the film will finally be set for viewing later this year with filming underway shortly.
Known for her trademark style, Aaliyah's recording career began in 1994 with her debut release "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number." She went on to sell 52 millions records. Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001 at age 22.
Zendaya's a doll, but once again, I'm left wondering why it is acceptable to recast living, breathing Black women with actresses who bear no resemblance.
Aaliyah's family is notoriously protective of her legacy, so they surely had some say in her casting. We'll see if she can pull it off.

BET host Keisha Chante has been lobbying for the role for years. Take a look.
