Falling in line with Black women’s takeover of television series, Jill Marie Jones who played iconic roles in Girlfriends and The Perfect Holiday will now grace our television screens in a new show.

The 40-year-old actress will star in the upcoming Starz horror-comedy series, Ash vs. Evil Dead. Slighted to run 10 half-hour episodes, the series begins filming in the spring in New Zealand.
Jones will play the female lead role Amanda Fisher, a demoted Michigan State Trooper seeking justice for her slain partner. Aiming to prove that Ash, the main character, is to blame for the murder, she ultimately finds out Ash and his cohorts may be mankind’s only hope against the plague of Evil Dead.

Jones joins the crowd of women including Viola Davis, Taraji P. Henson and Kerry Washington in shows starring Black actresses.

The show is a follow-up to the horror film trilogy, The Evil Dead.

Viewers can expect to see Jones and the rest of the Ash vs. Evil Dead cast on Starz network in late 2015.
