It has been reported that a five-year-old girl survived the mass shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina by pretending to be dead. She was present during the Wednesday night bible study when a gunman opened fire on those in the church. She is recovering this morning after surviving the deadly attack, family members say.

The victims of this hate crime are three males, including South Carolina State Senator the Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney, and six female members of the church.
