Sanaa Lathan Cast as "Flyy Girl" Lead in Film Adaptation


Omar Tyree's Flyy Girl is coming to life with Sanaa Lathan as the lead. The trilogy follows Tracy Ellison, who will be portrayed by Lathan in the film adaptation. Flyy Girl is a classic coming-of-age story that follows Tracy from youth to becoming a successful a businesswoman  struggling to find happiness.

“So many people have grown up on this series and I’m looking forward to bringing Tracy Ellison’s story to life through film,” Lathan said to Variety. “It’s my hope to continue to help bring diverse stories to the big screen.”
Rights to the film were bought by Lionsgate's Codeblack, which also released Let Me Explain and Mister & Pete. Lathan will also work as an executive producer on the film.
