In the latest cultural appropriation stunt, Allure Magazine featured a white woman with straight hair to demonstrate an Afro hair style tutorial.
The tutorial is a part of the magazine’s “Retro Modern” 70s-inspired styles feature. It comes as no surprise that the feature includes no Black women. The article also fails to mention the politics surrounding Afros and their emergence during the Black power movement as a symbol of Black pride.
Rightfully, people are fed up with the beauty and fashion world's constant appropriation of Black culture.
