If you haven’t heard, Rihanna’s album, ANTI, has achieved major success. It has been less than a week and the album has already reached platinum status. The quick success of ANTI is the result of the strategic way TIDAL and SAMSUNG released her album.
Though Rihanna received much scrutiny for her album's delayed release, there was a method to their madness. Samsung made a deal with Rih’s record label Westbury Road Entertainment (distributed by Roc Nation Records), and bought one million copies so that users were able to download the album for free. This is not much different from when Jay Z released, Magna Carta Holy Grail in 2013. Samsung purchased Jay Z’s album beforehand and distributed it to their users.
It is highly expected for Rihanna’s album to hit No. 1 on the charts, however it is still unclear on how many records have been sold thus far. ANTI is now available for purchase via iTunes and has already been streamed 14 million times on Tidal.
Last year Rihanna signed a $25 million deal with Samsung, and they will also sponsor her tour with Travi$ Scott next month.
The growing anticipation and promotion resulted in skyrocketing album sales. We look forward to seeing what else ANTI will accomplish.
