Beyoncé's second visual album Lemonade visually and sonically referenced a number of texts and films including "Daughters of the Dust," Julie Dash's landmark film on multigenerational relationships among Black women in the 1900s.

That film which is difficult to find on DVD will return to theaters and film festivals in the coming months and on Blu-ray following a digital restoration according to the New York Times. The project has been overseen by Cohen Film Collection.

The film's restoration included color-grading to better capture the range of dark skin tones.

Archivist Tim Lanza said, “The big issue for Julie and A.J. (the film's cinematographer) was capturing the variety of African-American skin tones. That was not something presented in the first version available.”
