Misty Copeland is getting her own Barbie doll.
The 33-year-old Prima ballerina's doll will honor her groundbreaking accomplishments in ballet as a part of Mattel's Barbie Sheroes program. She was named the first Black principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre.
Misty announced the news on Good Morning America, and lucky for us, the doll is now on sale and will ship on May 9.
Misty's doll wears her costume from her first principal role in the classic Russian ballet Firebird. Misty will reprise the role on May 18 and 19 at the Metropolitan Opera House.
"I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on," Copeland said in a press release. "It's an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll."
Barbie general manager and senior vice president, Lisa McKnight, said Misty's doll will encourage younger girls to follow their dreams. As a brand, we want to honor women, like Misty, who are inspiring the next generation of girls to live out their dreams. We know role play often leads to real 'play' in life and we're thrilled to celebrate Misty with her very own doll, " she said in a statement.
Copeland will get her signature doll a year after director Ava DuVernay was honored with her own doll.
