26-year-old Barber is an IT analyst and Logistics Commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade, Md.
She is the first winner from the District of Columbia in 14 years and the 9th Black woman to win the crown.
When asked about new military regulations that allow women into combat roles, Barber answered. “As a woman in the United States Army, I think it was an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military,” Barber answered. “We are just as tough as men.”
