Laverne, Cicely, Kerry, Angela and Uzo Receive Emmy Nominations


This morning Laverne Cox became the first transgender actress to receive an Emmy nomination for her role as Sophia in Orange is the New Black. Her co-star Uzo Aduba also received a nomination for guest actress in a comedy series for her portrayal of Suzanne bka "Crazy Eyes."

Interesteringly, An African-American woman has not been nominated for an Emmy for best actress in a comedy series since Phylicia Rashad as Clair Huxtable more than two decades ago.




Kerry Washington also received her second nomination for Best Lead Actress in a drama series for her role as Olivia Pope in Scandal.

Angela Bassett also received a Best Supporting Actress nod for her role in the mini-series American Horror Story: Coven,

Cicely Tyson was recognized with a nomination in the Lead Actress in a Mini-Series or Television Movie for The Trip to Bountiful, while the program is also up for Best Television Movie.
