This 77-Year-Old World Class Sprinter is our New Fitness Inspiration

Rose Green is a champion sprinter with medals in the 200 and 400 meter races, and an American record holder for the 60-meter sprint. While these are alone impressive accomplishments, her achievements are made all the more remarkable when considering the great-grandmother just celebrated her 77nd birthday on May 24--and she's only been sprinting since last year!

Green said that she was told she was "born to sprint" as a Jamaican when asked what inspired her late start. Indeed it seems she was destined for the sport as the late-comer is already one of the best in the world in her age group.

Her coach Cortez Austin says, "She's world class," and says she's considered a celebrity and inspiration in her local community where she also teaches weight training. Green and Austin have been dating for four years and she is quick to mention that he gives her no special treatment as a result.
“He'll tell me, ‘Your form is not right, you're not going as fast as you should,'” Green said of her coach. “He's a very strict coach even though we are lovers.”

Green is currently training for national championships upcoming in July. Though she runs for fun, she admits that she has a competitive nature.

“I'm working towards the world record,” she said. “Why not?"
