Baltimore Police Blocked Rihanna From Performing Free Concert

Rihanna wanted to walk with protesters and perform a free concert in Baltimore in the memory of Freddie Gray according to city communications released Monday by Baltimore officials.

In a message sent to the then head of media relations Captain Eric Kowalczyk for Baltimore Police dated May 1, an officer outlines a conversation with the singer's representative who advised that Rihanna wanted to walk with the protestors and hold a free concert.

The possible concert was also mentioned in a situation report dated May 1 which indicates police might have stopped any attempt to hold the free show because of a lack of permit.  "Possible Rihanna Concert at Penn & North," the report states. "No time given. Police are claiming they have no permit so it will not be allowed."

Though Rihanna's show was ultimately not held, Prince did later play at the Royal Farms Arena on May 10, part of which was broadcast by Tidal.
