Misty Copeland Documentary "A Ballerina's Tale" Gets Release Date

Sundance Selects has acquired the rights to the documentary film, A Ballerina's Tale, focusing on a critical point of Misty Copeland's career, Variety reports.

The film, directed by Nelson George and co-executive produced by Copeland, follows her career from her lead performance in Igor Stravinsky's "Firebird", through her recovery from injury and return to the American Ballet Theater.
The documentary will also explore issues of race and body image in the ballet world. Copeland recently made history as the first African-American woman selected as a principal dancer by the ABT.

President of Sundance Selects Jonathan Sehring said of the film, “George has crafted an inspiring documentary to befit the elegance, power and will of his subject.”

A Ballerina's Tale, which premiered in April at the Tribeca Film Festival, will be released in theaters and on Video On Demand on October 14.
