The Divas of Women RUN the World invite you to honor our marathoners in the only way we know how… Sexy N Stilettos! Join us for a night of celebratory toasts to the Bank of America 2015 Marathon participants. We will send them on the road to 26.2 in style with refreshments, full bar and music from the Soul selectors DJs from 6pm -2 am.

Women of Excellence Salute African American Women In Cinema

African American Women in Cinema (AAWIC) is proud to announce the “Women of Excellence Salute”. The program is designed to honor women who have excelled in their respective industries and who have demonstrated exemplary talent. These extraordinary women have also paved the way for those who are following in their paths. 
In addition, AAWIC has selected Bras for Hope, a breast cancer awareness, non-profit organization to be the beneficiary of this program. Their mission is to educate, inform and advocate for women who are underinsured, non-insured, and are in need of post-mastectomy garments.

Remember Me to Miss Louisa: Hidden Black-White Intimacies in Antebellum America Book reading & signing by University of Alabama Professor Sharon Green

Sharony Green, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Alabama, will read from her new book, Remember Me to Miss Louisa: Hidden Black-White Intimacies in Antebellum America (Northern Illinois University Press, 2015) 1-3 pm Oct. 10.

Using letters, business and legal documents, the book sheds light on the complexities of human relationships in the years surrounding the Civil War. It does as much by revealing the financial and emotional investments antebellum southern white men made in enslaved women and children who were freed as America's boundaries pushed westward.
