Serena and Venus Williams Will Play Each Other in the Australian Open Final

36-year-old Venus Williams has advanced to the finals of the Australian Open. This will be her first appearance there in 14 years. She will play against her sister Serena, 35.

Venus is the oldest finalist in the history of the modern Australian Open. She beat fellow American 25-year-old CoCo Vandeweghe. Serena Williams beat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in straight sets.

Serena Williams says she did not watch her big sister's match, but is excited to meet her in the final.

“She’s my toughest opponent,” said Serena Williams. “No one has ever beaten me as much as Venus has. She has a pretty good record against me, and we have a good record against each other. I just feel like, no matter what happens, we’ve won. She’s been through a lot, and I’ve been through a lot. And to see her come back and do so well is great.”

Serena's record against Venus is 16-11. The two have not played each other in a Grand Slam final since 2009.

Serena is looking to win her 23rd Grand Slam title, the most of any female tennis player in the modern era.
