Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that actress and activist Laverne Cox will be moving to network television, to star in a new CBS drama titled Doubt.
About Cox's casting, The Hollywood Reporter further writes:
The drama revolves around a yet-to-be-cast smart, chic, successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm who shockingly gets romantically involved with one of her clients who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime. You can read more about the upcoming show at TheHollywoodReporter.com.
Cox, in one of the biggest showings of diversity yet this pilot season, will co-star as Cameron Wirth, a role specifically created for a transgender actress. The character is described as a transgender Ivy League-educated attorney who is as competitive as she is compassionate. She's fierce, funny and the fact that she's experienced injustice first hand makes her fight all the harder for her clients.
We're excited to see lovely and talented Cox move to major network television. With the success of Black women on TV shows such as Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, and Empire, it will be wonderful to see another one of our favorite actresses on primetime TV. And it's especially great, as mainstream media still fails to capture the experiences of trans women of color.
Go, Laverne, go!
