Billie Holiday Will Return to the Apollo as a Hologram

The Apollo has announced that it will be the first theater in the United States to offer extended presentations with hologram technology. Billie Holiday, who performed at the Apollo nearly 30 times, will be the first hologram performance at the Apollo Theater. The performance is scheduled to debut around Thanksgiving.

Holiday first appeared at the Apollo at 19 years old. She was inducted into the Apollo Hall of Fame in April.
“Billie is going to be able to talk about the history of the Apollo,” said Jonelle Procope, the president of the Apollo to the New York Times. “She can take questions from the audience in an interesting way. She can sing some songs.”

The interactive show will include her voice taken from audio recordings.

“When people see this, they’re going understand the vast opportunities that we’ll have to bring some of these performances to life,” Ms. Procope said.
The Apollo has partnered with Hologram USA and will be the only host of the company’s technology in New York over a two-year period.
