It's been almost four years since the first images of Zoe Saldana as Nina Simone emerged. Many familiar with the work of Miss Simone, were horrified to see the Afrolatina actress with darkened skin and a prosthetic nose. It seemed to be an affront to Simone's legacy.

Years have passed and the film has yet to be released. Rumors swirled about terrible reviews and discord with the studio. For a while, it looked like Nina, directed by Cynthia Mort, would never see the light of day.

We were wrong.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Nina will be in theaters and video on demand on April 22.

The film also stars David Oyelowo as Simone's assistant-turned-manager, Clifton Henderson
