Black women and girl came together to celebrate Friday night for the annual "Black Girls Rock" ceremony. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made a surprise appearance at the taping in Newark, New Jersey.
She told the crowd, Black women are "change makers and pathmakers and ground shakers." She said her life has been changed by strong Black women leaders, including Marian Wright Edelman, whom she worked for as a young attorney at the Children's Defense Fund, the late poet and author Maya Angelou and the late civil rights activist Dorothy Height.

Clinton introduced a video honoring Beverly Bond, the founder of Black Girls Rock.
